These days, e-commerce seems as ordinary as e-mail. Internet businesses are still relatively new, however, despite their large influence on consumer spending. "E-tailers" have gone global with their expanded reach, while traditional brick and mortar stores are fighting to keep up. Being an online business doesn't guarantee success, however, as demonstrated by the recent disintegration of the dot-com boom.
